Let me explain American Phenomena at you.

Finding meaning and connection in the culture we consume

Laughing in the face of late stage capitalism

Keira Horowitz on a stage with a microphone, pointing to a screen behind her with an image from the movie Peewee's Big Adventure. She is speaking at a tribute to Peewee Herman event.

Keira Horowitz is a pop culture scholar, performer, and writer in Somerville, Massachusetts.  Fifteen years ago she discovered setting up powerpoint presentations in a bar was a much more satisfying path than submitting academic papers.

Since then her work on Mormon Mommybloggers, Pee Wee Herman, Yacht Rock, and even the brief cosmonaut career of Lance Bass has found an audience in variety shows, comedy clubs, a few movie theaters, several living rooms and the Holiday Inn pool.
